Niel Jonker

Niel Jonker is a multi-disciplinary artist, using oil painting and sculpture to explore the relationship between man and nature through process-orientations that include placing the artist within the environment that is the subject. This may include painting the landscape in-situ as has been Neil’s practice for the past seven of so years. Or more recently where he casts earth on location to incorporate the site’s significance into the sculpture.

Niel’s rare editions of figurative bronze sculpture are bound by a momentary pause in  time, lending them a graceful and timeless quality, while exploring the nature of beauty through the classical sculptural approach of naturalistic rendering. Distinguishing features include an impressionistic and expressive mark-making ability that sets his style apart Neil has been commissioned for public sculpture in South Africa and is included in collections local and abroad. He lives in Baardskeerdersbos and works throughout the South-western Cape, where the landscape still lives large.
