Robert Domijan was born in Johannesburg in 1959. He attended the then Pretoria Technicon Arts Faculty and obtained a National Diploma in Art in 1983.
A career that spans 25 years, Robert Domijan is a painter of contemporary modern life, working in traditional media: oil painting, charcoal/pencil drawing, print-making, sculpture and mixed media and has explored land and video/sound art.
At a time that South Africa was boycotted culturally and politically from the rest of the world, Domijan was not highly visible, choosing rather to produce works as an outsider and to exhibit less frequently, occasionally showing with selective galleries, Some selected group showings include ‘VIEW’ at KZNSA Gallery, Durban, “THREE” at The Christopher Moller Gallery, Cape Town, “STRIKING BACK’ at artSPACEdurban, Durban and ‘TWFNM’ at UJ Gallery, Johannesburg and Johannes Stegman Gallery, Bloemfontein
“’The act of painting and creating is one of the ways to manifest and celebrate the experiences of contemporary life in its pleasure and pain. I create works that are metaphors of my thoughts, ideas, and desires. I hope to convey both my conscious and unconscious through ambiguities of abstract and functional forms”
