The To Skin a Cat Fundraiser is an evening of music and an exhibition of one of a kind artwork by invited South African artists. All proceeds will raise funds for the production of a film documentary ‘To Skin a Cat’ - a campaign aimed at saving the leopard populations in southern Africa by changing cultural and religious thinking on the use of leopard skins as ceremonial dress. At the heart of the campaign is the documentary film following Tristan Dickerson of ‘Panthera’ as he tries to create a high-quality and affordable synthetic fur to combat the demand for real leopard furs used for traditional garments.
There will be live performances by Thomas Krane and Aidan Cornhill.
Artworks (lightboxes of illustrated artworks and photography) will be for sale at cost price for one night only are by Colwyn Thomas, Skullboy, Christian Mugnai, Faith 47, Greg Lomas, James Kydd, Lauren Fowler, Elizabeth Ann Ross, Charl Senekal, Chris Galliers, Mary-Anne Hampton and Craig Hayman. R50 entrance will be donated to the ‘To skin a cat’ project’ Card carrying KZNSA members – free entrance.
Extended gift shopping at BUZZ Art, KZN’s festive season superstore – including a launch of exclusively commissioned ceramics by Ento ceramics (funcky retro 50’s afrikaner tableware complete with proteas, bokke, ants and lucky beans).
The Durban Gay and Lesbian Film festival team will provide a cash bar at totally do-able prices.
